Job Description & Expectations

 

Total Package Hockey, one of the nation's largest hockey service providers, is searching for a Player Development Coach / Mentor for its Indianapolis division.

POSITION:                                Head Coach Tri-State Spartans AAA Hockey Club

COMPENSATION:                    Depends on experience

  • A desire to embrace a non-traditional work schedule with non-traditional hours, ie. this is not a 9-5 position.

  • An open-mindedness to an occupation that requires multi-tasking and the "wearing of multiple-hats" related to providing hockey services.

 

Qualifications and Assets

The following qualifications are required when applying for this position:

  • Past youth, junior, collegiate and/or professional hockey coaching experience

  • Microsoft Office proficient

  • Able to complete a variety of administrative tasks in a timely fashion a must

  • Willing to participate in ongoing training and related professional development activities as directed

  • Will have to comply with SafeSport Certification regulation and background check

 

The following qualifications are considered assets when applying for this position:

  • Past youth, junior, collegiate and/or professional hockey playing experience

  • Past youth hockey relationships/networking

  • Past business/organizational work experience

 

Job Description

Recruiting

  • Recruit for all programs, specifically the Center of Excellence. "Recruiting" encompasses:

    • Attending area weekend tournaments and showcases, weekday games and team practices.

    • Evaluating player performance.

    • Accumulating biographical and contact information for prospective TPH families.

    • Building relationships and communicate with coaches, team managers and advisors regarding potential CoE families.

    • Building relationships and communicating with prospective CoE families.

    • Attending weekly recruiting meetings and providing weekly reports.   

    • Utilizing TPH's Zoho CRM recruiting software and complying with all directives.

 

On & Off-Ice Instruction

  • Assist the Director of Hockey in planning on and off-ice sessions for all on-ice programs, consistent with TPH's Hockey Model.

  • Support or lead video sessions, dynamic warm-ups and all other hockey/athletic activities.

  • Execute all training/practice plans.

  • Ensure all student-athletes are training in a safe, positive environment.

  • Oversee all secondary staff members, when tasked.

 

Culture, Impact and Mentorship

  • Build relationships and positively impact the lives of all student-athletes athletically, academically and personally.

  • Support all processes and procedures originating from the TPH-Hub, related to the culture of TPH-Indianapolis, and assist with implementation and enforcement, at the Center of Excellence in particular.

  • Provide support and assistance in the Center of Excellence classroom, when called upon.

 

Administrative

  • At the discretion of the Director of Operations, provide assistance with critical administrative functions for the division, such as:

    • Booking ice and facility usage.

    • Building staff schedules.

    • Ordering jerseys, equipment and supplies.

    • Handling all communication with both student-athletes and staff.

    • Coordinating marketing efforts.

    • Preparing events and activities.

    • Providing student-transportation.

    • Overseeing efforts to fill to capacity.

 

Coaching

  • Serve as Head Coach for Tri-State Spartans 16U AAA. Responsibilities are specific but not limited to:

    • Recruit competitive, high character, quality players.   

    • Provide mentorship and take an active role in the hockey, athletic and personal development of all players.

    • See to it that all players are maintaining high academic standards.

    • Organize and conduct all team practices, video sessions and meetings.

    • Prepare for all games, provide in-game coaching and debrief post-game in a thorough manner.

    • Assist players in all areas related to advancement, specific but not limited to communication with coaches, scouts, families and advisors.

    • See to it that the team is acting in total accordance with all USA Hockey policies.

    • Communicate with players and their families on team-related matters.

    • Oversee staff members.

  • Serve as Head Coach for a team for the TPH Spring AAA and AA Prospect Program.

  • Serve as Evaluator and On ice instructor for TPH Spring Top 40.
